Guest Post: The Importance of Staying Focused by Brinda Berry (Whisper of Memory Blog Tour)

As a part of the Whisper of Memory Blog Tour I have the honor of introducing the lovely Brinda Berry, the author of Whisper of Memory (Whispering Woods #2). Today she has provided us with an awesome guest post written by her protagonist's (Mia's) boyfriend (Regulus). I'd also like to mention that Brinda is running a giveaway for a Kindle Touch and 20 Romance Trading Cards. The giveaway is at the end of this post. Good luck!
Weapons training and winter formals...a deadly combination.

All Mia ever wanted was to fit in at Whispering Woods High. But being a portal-finder who dates a guy from another dimension sort of makes it hard. A month ago her brother disappeared, and agents from the IIA began policing people's movements through dimensions. She'd trusted Dr. Bleeker from the local university when he'd told her the IIA were the bad guys. But even a girl with an extraordinary ability to sense things can make mistakes.

Now two people are dead, and as a portal gatekeeper for the IIA, Mia needs to find Dr. Bleeker before he hurts anyone else. And her boyfriend Regulus, an Agent for the IIA, carries secrets of his own. Between learning about weaponry, finding the perfect dress for the winter formal, and catching bad guys, who has time to fit in?

The Importance of Staying Focused
by Regulus (The Waiting Booth and Whisper of Memory)

My name is Regulus. I could give you my full identification number, but then I'd have to kill you. Don't you call that a "lame joke"? I can see I need to leave the funny lines to my partner, Arizona. Let me begin again. I have been assigned to monitor the portals of Whispering Woods for unauthorized activity. Humans and other beings cannot travel through dimensions without permission from the IIA. Although this is supposed to be an easy assignment and well within my training, it has turned into more of a challenge than you would think.

I have this obstacle I haven't had in the past. My cover is that I'm a local college student, and I have been studying one thing intensely. The subject is Mia Carina Taylor. She poses as an ordinary high school student, but I can confirm that she is not. I thought for a brief time that she might be part of my training — a test of my loyalty to the IIA. I've changed my mind. No one as stubborn as Mia could be part of the IIA's training program. She doesn't take orders well.

I will be honest. I'm not sure why I am so drawn to Mia. She doesn't agree with me most of the time. She ignores my advice. She's too reckless with her physical safety for no reason. That last part is not accurate. She risked herself to save me more than once. Although I would do the same for her, it's because it is my duty. No. That's not true. Protecting her feels so natural, I know I would do it no matter the reason.

Mia is still a mystery to me. She is smart, quick, and funny. She hides her synesthesia from the world, so maybe she's hiding things from me. I think she may be one of the most loyal people I know. Mia would do anything for her family and friends.

My loyalties have never been in question. I was created to protect the seed vault you call Earth. What I don't know is how much longer I can keep my focus. When I'm with Mia, I forget the reason I'm in Whispering Woods. I forget that there are rules of engagement. I take one look into her eyes that warm me like the sun, and I want to smile. She places her hand on the back of my neck to draw me to her, and I am lost in heat and sweetness and anticipation. If I didn't know better, I would think she has more talents than locating portals. I would think she has cast a spell on me.

It's my responsibility to stay focused. If I can...

Author Bio:
Brinda Berry lives in the southern US with her family and two spunky cairn terriers. She has a BSE in English and French and a MEd in Learning Systems Technology. She's terribly fond of chocolate, coffee, and books that take her away from reality. She doesn't mind being called a geek or “crazy dog lady”. When she's not working the day job or writing a novel, she's guilty of surfing the internet for no good reason. (Website / Twitter / FB)
