Ugh, I am totally sick right now. I am vaguely aware that I am writing a blog post. But I do know that I wish I was doing this:
Than my sad reality of this:
But enough of my pity party. I wanted to show you all how my brain works when someone asks me to borrow my books. I don't think I am alone in this:
I'm also a germaphobe, so you can imagine my panic attacks when people want to touch my books.
Do any of you feel this way when someone asks to borrow your books?

I refuse to let anyone borrow my books. The only exception I have ever made to this rule was for Sarah (saz101) and she walked my copy of Eclipse into a telegraph pole. She was then so panicked I would hate her she offered to buy me another one. There was also one more book, but that is an ugly chapter in our history I will not discuss. :D
ReplyDeleteShe understands now though, because someone hurt her books.
I'm sorry you're sick, I hope you feel better soon. Harry Potter rereads are a good cure for illness. (shameless plugging of Harry Potter, in case you didn't catch the subtlety of it).
LOL, poor Sarah, She probably had an aneurysm when that happened.
DeleteWe need to start a coalition of stopping the violence towards book.
And I loved your Harry Potter plug.
I hope you get better soon :D
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel about letting someone borrow your books. I did that with my bestfriend once who doesn't cherish books like I do.When I got my book back she had it stuffed in her purse, the spine was in shamble, and I almost wanted to cry. We almost ended our friendship over that. But after buying me a new copy, our friendship was OK.but I vowed never to do that again LOL
I totally get that. I am happy she bought you a new book. It may seem silly to people but our books ARE our babies.
DeleteDefinitely. Though it gives the book history. One of my Hunger Games paperback is now creased and rugged and all... but that’s alright because I know that my mum has read it lol.
ReplyDeleteMy Aunt came down for the summer and she read one of my books. I almost died knowing she was touching my book. lol.
Delete*snugs* *gives you warm soup and hugs* feel better soon Jen!
ReplyDeleteAnd I TOTALLY agree with this. In fact, I actually erm... almost gave my friend a book to borrow and she was right there and I was all "oh it's so amazing, you'll love it", was handing her the book and she just looked at me and was like, "you don't want me to borrow your copy, do you?" and I was like... "No I do... I just... No.. I really don't." *hugs copy*
WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? haha.
She got the book from the library xD
Great post <3
OMG, that is hilarious. At least your friend knew you enough to know what's up. lol.
DeleteLending books is seriously terrifying! I've gotten books back with dog eared pages and bent spines. It makes me feel like someone threw up on my shoes :(
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better!
I am so bad, I hate when someone doggy ears my pages...but I do it all the time.
DeleteSick or not, a very nice post. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks
DeleteIt totally gives me panic attacks!
ReplyDeleteI don't ind if it's a book I bought second hand that's not in top condition, but if it's a new one, then I just want to cry! I hate breaking the spine on a book even! I lent a book to a friend a couple of months ago, it left my house looking the same as it had when it arrived from amazon (even though I had read it three times!), and came back looking like a dog had chewed on it! Very upset! When she asked if I had the next one in the series I said NO!
I really hate it when people mistreat books, at least if I loan my dad something I know it will come back looking untouched. Not loaning out another book for a while now!
If you borrowed an item of clothing and sent it back torn and stained people would be really annoyed - this should be the same for books!
Okay, rant over ☺ Hope you're feeling better soon hon x
I agree. A book is my possession, like my clothes. I wouldn't return clothing all torn up and stained.
DeleteHahahaha, yes, me too. I'm worried they will bend a page wrong, break the spine, anything to hurt it. Spillages, doesn't matter. I'd almost rather buy them their own copy. Then I reality check myself!
ReplyDeleteI think I need a reality check. lol
DeleteOh goodness, YES! I feel EXACTLY the same way. And I always seem to get my copies back with broken spines and it makes me want to CRY :'(
ReplyDeleteAlso, and I can't believe I forgot: *hugs* I hope you feel better really REALLY soon.
DeleteThere's a really nasty bug making the rounds in Australia, too :(
What's sad is I know how I got sick. I was getting medicine for something else and the check out girl was coughing in her hands and touching my stuff to put it in a bag. Then I totally forgot to wash down the bottles and touched everything she contaminated. I know she got me sick. I NEVER cough in my hands. That's how you spread sickess...case in point. I always cough in my shirt.
DeleteFor me, it's less a "they're going to ruin my precious book" and more "I'll never see my precious book again". Everyone I know reads so much more slowly than I do. And I like having my books with ME, instead of languishing in someone else's house.
ReplyDeleteI loan books to my brother - his own books are heaps battered, but he knows how important books are to me, so he's always very careful to take care of mine! - and to my Grandma - who stops just short of putting on kid gloves to read them.
Hope you get better SOON.
I too am scared that I will get my books back. I read pretty fast so when I don't see my book for a month cuz a friend it reading it, it freaks me out.
DeleteStory of my life. Although I do tend to threaten those brave enough to ask me for a book...
ReplyDeleteLOL, good for you.
DeleteWhenever I loan a book out I pray that they will love my books the way I love them. Which would be in New or Like New condition.
ReplyDeleteI should make up a liz lending contract with membership cards.
It will clearly state that in no way should you read my books while drinking liquids if you feel you cannot contain it from spilling.
Do not leave my book anywhere it can damaged or lost.
Do not erase any markings or pencil marks in my books.
Always treat my books with love and you can borrow as many as you like.
I'll even get a system going that will text or email you when your book is due back in return for a new one.
Oh, one day I'll have a library of my own.
LOL, great idea. Another rule should be: Don't put my book in your purse.
DeleteYes! I don't need your lipstick and purse dirt all over my books! Hello? Protective covers!
DeleteIn fact, with every rental you can borrow or buy a protective cover for all your book protecting needs!
Excellent!
