Answer: OMG, so easy. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater (Click for Review). I gave that book 1.5 stars but it gets mostly 4 and 5 star ratings on Goodreads. I just don't think the writing style is for me. But even the story and plot itself was nothing spectacular. The book dragged on for the first 100 pages then got a little exciting in the middle then dragged for the last 1/3 of the book. I so wanted to like The Raven Boys but it was a no-go for me.

ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you didn't like it--I always feel weird when I hate a book but everyone else gives it glowing reviews.

Yeah, it makes me feel like something is wrong with me since I am such in the minority.
DeleteOh damn. Some books just click for some and not others. Thanks for stopping by.

Yup, pretty much
Delete1.5, really? Everyone seems to love it. Goes to show how different all of our tastes are. We can't all love every book! :)

I know. I was shocked by how much it did not click with me.
DeleteHaven't read that one. Just hopping through. Happy Friday! :D
ReplyDeleteThe synopsis of the Raven Boys sounded good to me but knowing how her other series was I was scared this book would be a very slow read too. I still want to eventually read it but its no longer on the top 50 of my TBR pile. LOL.

Yeah. Read it because of it's popularity but don't run to the stores. Nothing too great about it.
DeleteI haven't read this one, but you are right, everyone seems to love it.

Hello from a new follower. I've only read "The Scorpio Races" by that author, and was rather unimpressed too.
ReplyDeleteMy FF: http://moonlit-librarian.blogspot.com/2012/09/feature-and-follow-friday-i-succumb-to.html
The was the book I wanted to read but never bought. When I won Raven Boys I was like "Oh good, now I get to see why this author is so popular" Yeah, didn't work out so well.
DeleteOh! I was going to grab this copy coming weekend! Dang, I hoped this was a good book!

Don't let me stop you, many have liked it. You might too.
Deletewhoa that's low! I haven't read it yet, so I'll have to wait and see. :)
ReplyDeleteMy FF
I know, I was even shocked by how low I rated it but it deserved it.
DeleteThat's exactly how I felt about The Scorpio Races, which was my pick this week. I was about 100 pages in, and nothing significant had happened yet. The Raven Boys sounds like it was much the same; that's disappointing to hear because I really liked its synopsis and put it on my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteOld follower. Our FF
I really wanted to read Scorpio Races but not after Raven Boys.
DeleteAnd don't let the synopsis fool you, it is not the main plot of the book.
Just saying hi! New blogger doing this meme for the first time. Congrats on being featured!
ReplyDeleteVisit me & my sis!
I've heard of The Raven Boys. It's actually on my to-read list. Don't feel bad if you didn't like it because there are books that I just don't get and I know people side-eye me because of that. LOL.
LOL, side-eye. I know the feeling.
DeleteI had not read this yet, will probably check it out, I still don't know if its for me or not either
ReplyDeleteHere is mine Follow Friday Hop
It's so funny how the same book is one star for some people and five stars for another. I loved The Raven Boys but I agree that there is so much hype about it.
ReplyDelete(And I'm a long time follower already.)
I know. This is the first time I actually disliked a book that was so popular.
DeleteTotally agree! I really enjoyed Maggie's Wolves of Mercy series but this one just didn't appeal to me at all. I didn't even both requesting it on Netgalley. A shame too, I liked the author's style in her first books.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Follow Friday
Have a GREAT weekend!

I was thinking of giving the Wolves of Mercy a try but now I am not so sure.

ReplyDeleteOld follower :). Such a pity about The Raven Boys.
ReplyDeleteOh that's disappointing. I've only read MS's The Wolves of Mercy Falls - although I thought there was a tad too much Rilke - I've got The Scorpio Races on my bookshelf and hope to get started on that, but I've heard mixed reviews about that one too.

Haven't read fifty shades and don't intend to :) I have got Fever on my bookshelf though, hope to read it soon, hopefully no I'm forewarned I'll not expect too much.

The only books from Maggie I would consider is the Wolves of Mercy Falls.

ReplyDeleteoh no! been waiting for this one!
My FF ♥
I have this problem a lot with the novels that get reviewed and hyped on the blogs I follow. They'll get SO much hype, and everyone is all, "OMG, YOU MUST READ OR YOUR LIFE WILL NEVER BE COMPLETE!!"
ReplyDeleteThen I read them and either think, "Well, that was mediocre," or "What are these people reading that they think THAT book was so amazing?!"

Luckily, I usually like the books people recommend but not this time.
DeleteI actually have been waiting for this and all the positivity surrounding it has me extra excited. I hope I enjoy it more than you did, then :) I actually really loved her book 'The Scorpio Races' even though I know the slowness of it really put a lot of people off. I kind of loved that about it XD

I hope you like it more too.
DeleteHaven't read it yet but heard that it was quite slow.

ReplyDeleteI hope I'm not disappointed! Sigh. We'll find out...
Here's my answer :)
I hope you like it more than me.
DeleteI have also heard some negative reviews for this book... The fact that The Wolves of Mercy Falls was AMAZING until the ending has put me off reading her books:/
