Author Interview & Giveaway: D.N. Simmons, Author of the Knights of the Darkness Chronicles

I have a treat for you today. Please welcome D.N. Simmons, author of the paranormal Knights of the Darkness Chronicles. This is a must read interview for D.N. answers my most probing questions. D.N. is also letting me host a giveaway for one ebook of the Chronicles, winner's choice.

Jennifer: Can you describe Knights of the Darkness Chronicles in three words?
D.N.: Exciting, original and awesome.

Jennifer: If you were going to come up with a theme song for your series, what song would you choose?
D.N.: Superpredators By Massive Attack. The song is dark, mysterious and sexy at the same time, just like my series.

Jennifer: Do you have a favorite character to write about? Is there a character who is a bit harder to write about than the rest?
D.N.: No. I love each and every character I’ve created because they all have these wonderful personalities that just jump right out at you from the pages.

Jennifer: What sets Knights of the Darkness Chronicles apart from the Paranormal genre?
D.N.: It’s completely original in its approach to the genre. For one, I don’t have a main character or couple. My story forms around the characters and can go in any direction, making it unpredictable. I give the reader multiple perspectives from my heroes point of view to my villains. That way, readers get to see what motivates each character and you don’t really get that from the genre as a whole. Also, my series features characters of different races and sexualities on equal standing, because I wanted my world to be a reflection of the real world.  We are all human and we should all care about this planet and the people we share it with.
There are also story lines you won’t find in any other novel/series in the UF/PNR genre and that is what makes the Knights of the Darkness Chronicles so unconventional and entertaining.

Jennifer: What were the best and most challenging parts of writing your series?
D.N.: I really love writing dialogue. I enjoy creating witty, thought-provoking conversations between characters and I feel it helps them become more realistic to the reader.  The most challenging of course, is editing. Checking for inconsistences and technique is a painstaking process, but worth every minute.

Jennifer: Can you tell us three surprising facts about yourself?
D.N.: I love anime, I’m terrified of flying and spiders.

Jennifer: What is one book everyone should read before they die?
D.N.: It’s a difficult question to answer. Not everyone shares the same religion or beliefs. The Joy Luck Club would be an amazing book to read, especially for women, but that’s not necessarily a book for everyone.  All right, I think I’ve got it. The one book that could be beneficial to everyone, regardless of race, creed or sexual orientation: The Dictionary. It brings people together with words and helps one express themself perfectly.

Jennifer: Finish this sentence: I cannot write without...
D.N.: Music. I’ve got to have music when I’m writing.

Jennifer: I can't thank you enough for taking time out to answer a few of my questions. Is there anything else you would like to mention before we part ways?
D.N.: I want to thank you for this opportunity to talk about my series. I had a great time with this interview and I hope people get a chance to read the Knights of the Darkness Chronicles. You won’t be disappointed.

Author Bio
I was born in the little, but big bustling city of Chicago, Illinois. I still live there today and I’m loving every second of it ... Except for those harsh cold winters. I started writing short horror stories when I was eleven years old. It wasn't until 2004 that I decided to take the plunge into the professional literary world when I wrote Desires Unleashed.

I love the supernatural world; I've always found it fascinating, especially vampires and shape-shifters. It was my love of the genre that motivated me to create the story I had always wanted to read. I published it, hoping there were other people out there who would be entertained by that same story. I love to entertain people, to offer them that fantasy world they can escape into filled with wonders and good times. I know I appreciate the escapism I've delved into when reading a good book.

Some of the accolades I've won for my writing are: "New Voice of Today" by A Romance Review, "Rising Star" by Love Romance and "Author of the Month" by Warrior of Words. I've been nominated two years in a row in several categories, including "best vampire novel" and "best urban-fantasy" at Love Romance and More. My third novel; The Royal Flush did win honorable mention in 2006.
