Meadow Woodson, a fifteen-year-old girl who has been trained
by her father to fight, to kill, and to survive in any situation, lives with
her family on a houseboat in Florida. The state is controlled by The Murder
Complex, an organization that tracks the population with precision.
The plot starts to thicken when Meadow meets Zephyr James,
who is—although he doesn’t know it—one of the MC’s programmed assassins. Is
their meeting a coincidence? Destiny? Or part of a terrifying strategy? And
will Zephyr keep Meadow from discovering the haunting truth about her family?
Action-packed, blood-soaked, and chilling, this is a dark
and compelling debut novel by Lindsay Cummings.
Jennifer: What
inspired you to write The Murder Complex?
Lindsay: When I
wrote TMC, I was in a pretty tough health situation. I wanted to write a story
about strength and weakness, about family and fear. Writing TMC just sort of
happened, and I’m so thankful that it did!
Jennifer: Did
anything (or anyone) surprise you while writing your book?
Lindsay: I think I surprised myself. I didn’t know I
was capable of falling so in love with a story, that even after I had read it
30 times, editing over and over and over again, I could still sit down with
that same book and think, “Man…I love that story.”Lindsay: I actually didn’t do much research at all. I like to write what I know, what I’ve experienced in life, so that it really feels honest and true. For me, that meant writing the book in Florida, a place where I grew up! I could really put my heart and soul into that setting, and it was a blast, too!
Jennifer: Can you
tell us three surprising facts about yourself?
Lindsay: I’m a lefty. I eat Paleo 5 days of the week, and the other 2, I give up and eat ALL THE FOOD. I played on the all-boy’s ice hockey team in high school!

Jennifer: Who are your favorite authors?
Lindsay: I LOVE THEM ALL. JK Rowling, Suzanne Collins, Marie Lu, Beth Revis, Lauren Oliver, my buddy Victoria Scott, Jonathan Maberry, Scott Westerfeld. Too many, man! Too many!

ReplyDeleteLOL, Yeah, not sure.
DeleteI think that it says a lot about the story that she still loves it even after reading it over and over again through the editing process. It's so important to have a story that you are proud of. Thanks so much for sharing :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I can't stand editing my books though, lol.
