Summary
Lucy’s learned some important lessons from tabloid darling Jayla Heart’s all-too-public blunders: Avoid the spotlight, don’t feed the Internet trolls, and keep your secrets secret. The policy has served Lucy well all through high school, so when her best friend Ellie gets sick before prom and begs her to step in as Cole’s date, she accepts with a smile, silencing about ten different reservations. Like the one where she’d rather stay home shredding online zombies. And the one where she hates playing dress-up. And especially the one where she’s been secretly in love with Cole since the dawn of time.
When Cole surprises her at the after party with a kiss under the stars, it’s everything Lucy has ever dreamed of… and the biggest BFF deal-breaker ever. Despite Cole’s lingering sweetness, Lucy knows they’ll have to ’fess up to Ellie. But before they get the chance, Lucy’s own Facebook profile mysteriously explodes with compromising pics of her and Cole, along with tons of other students’ party indiscretions. Tagged. Liked. And furiously viral.
By Monday morning, Lucy’s been branded a slut, a backstabber, and a narc, mired in a tabloid-worthy scandal just weeks before graduation.
Lucy’s been battling undead masses online long enough to know there’s only one way to survive a disaster of this magnitude: Stand up and fight. Game plan? Uncover and expose the Facebook hacker, win back her best friend’s trust, and graduate with a clean slate.

There’s just one snag—Cole. Turns out Lucy’s not the only
one who’s been harboring unrequited love...

Top 10 Things I’m Doing When I’m Not Writing!
by Sarah Ockler
1.
Reading and studying tarot. My aunt has been reading tarot for
decades, and with her help, I started to learn the cards while writing FIXING
DELILAH. In that book, Delilah’s aunt Rachel reads tarot, so I needed to get a
basic understanding of the process and the card meanings. After that, I got
hooked! Now I have several decks of my own, all for different types of
readings, and I love learning about the imagery and symbolism of the cards. I
do personal readings for myself and loved ones, as well as readings for my
characters to help shape new stories and fictional conflicts.
2.
Baking cupcakes, cake, or cookies. I have a monster sweet-tooth,
but I’m not generally a fan of store-bought baked goods. Recipes to the rescue!
Some of my favorite go-tos include chai spiced sugar cookies, chocolate-dipped
almond cookies, chocolate cupcakes, and ginger bread cake. A few of my cupcakes
made their way into BITTERSWEET.
3. Playing
outside. I’m a total tree-hugger and mountain explorer. Well, not a hardcore
mountain explorer, since I’m petrified of bears (real or imagined) and I have a
limited tolerance for outdoor plumbing, but I do love camping and taking a nice
hike above the treeline (that’s about 2 miles above sea level here in Colorado,
give or take)… especially when there’s pie and hot chocolate waiting for me at
the mountain lodge at the end of a long weekend in the woods!
4.
Dreaming about the sea. As much as I love the mountains and the
forest, I’m equally at home by the sea, where I’ll spend hours walking the
beach in search of treasures like sea glass, rocks, shells, and other little
gems. My love for the ocean inspired the setting for TWENTY BOY SUMMER, and for
the book I just finished, which takes place on the Oregon coast.
5. Reading.
It’s never a bad time to curl up with a good book and mug of tea. Some of my
recent fave authors include Jessi Kirby, Deb Caletti, Anais Nin, Kami Garcia,
Margaret Stohl, Cindy Pon, and Maggie Stiefvater.
6. Getting
inspired with new story ideas by all of those fabulous books I’ve been reading,
per #5! Nothing gets me more jazzed to write than reading excellent prose!
7. Writing
Dean Winchester fanfiction in my head. I don’t watch much television, but I
recently got accidentally addicted to Supernatural, watching 8 seasons pretty
much back-to-back on Netflix. Now I have to wait until October to catch up with
Season 9 on Netflix, and then season 10, and what else can I do to while away
the hours before the Winchesters are back in my life but invent imaginary
scenarios in which they rescue me from various paranormal threats? I’m saying.
8. Spring
cleaning. Despite the disastrous condition of my desk, I despise clutter! I
used to be a collector of randomness, but now I try to keep things to a
minimum, just because it feels more freeing and light. The more stuff I have,
the more time I have to take away from writing and other fun things in order to
manage that stuff. So every few days, I go through the place and see if there’s
anything I can donate or get rid of or streamline. It’s become a fun little
mission to downsize, and to imagine what it might be like if we decided to pick
up and leave the country for a year, or go live in a tent. Um, a tent with
indoor plumbing, of course. In a bear-free area close to pie and hot chocolate.
9. Ordering
Indian food. Honestly, it’s a problem. My addiction to navratan korma and
chana saag is incurable. Thankfully, we have a yummy Indian restaurant nearby,
and they deliver! We’re practically family, we see them so often. They actually
worry about us when we don’t order for a couple of weeks!
10. Road
tripping. There are so many great things to see and do in this country! I
love getting in the car with my husband and hitting the road. Sometimes we set
out with a destination in mind—last summer we drove from Colorado to the
Pacific Northwest to research the setting of a new book—but other times we just
pack up the tent, some music, and a bunch of snacks, and head out on the
highway. I suppose one of these days I’ll have to write a road trip book!
Thanks so much for hosting me, Jennifer!
