Guest Post & Excerpt: Gilded Wings by Amy Lignor (Blog Tour + Giveaway)

Join us in celebrating the release of the second book in the Angel Chronicles Series, Gilded Wings by Amy Lignor. I had the pleasure of reading the first book of the series, Until Next Time (Click for review), and enjoying it greatly. Amy has provided a great guest post and excerpt for our viewing pleasure. And don't forget to enter the giveaway below.
Summary
The Beloved Angel-Warrior Team from Until Next Time Returns!

When Matt and Emily are sent on their second mission they have no idea how truly dark human nature can become...

Emily never wanted to face humans again. With the heartache that went on down below, she’s still trying to figure out how to save souls that don’t deserve saving. The only one she wants to see again is Jason - the young man she fell in love with who became the soulmate she simply can’t forget...

Matt was trained to protect and defend the souls down below. Longing to feel the heartfelt emotions that come from being human, Matt wants nothing more than to have just one life - one chance - to live and love the girl of his dreams...

The powerful team find themselves in a brand new century, living in the Gilded Age of New York City. Emily takes over the body of Anya, a young Russian girl who arrives on Ellis Island after a hideous tragedy. There she meets up with a strangely familiar young man by the name of Drew Parrish, who helps Anya survive in an unknown world of luxury, snobbery and…obsession.

What Anya’s inner angel doesn’t know is that the soul she loves is also back. This time around Jason goes by the name of Max Carrow. Once a quiet and kind boy, he’s now part of the ‘Four Hundred Club,’ and wants nothing more than to be among the most admired as he climbs the shaky ladder of society’s elite.

As two worlds merge, Emily and Matt struggle under the weight of their “Gilded Wings.” Not only will they have to figure out who they should fight to save, but they must also face a romantic choice that could destroy them both.

Who Would You Like to Have Dinner With - Past & Present?

Okay, ladies, this one’s for you…

We’re going to do breakfast, lunch AND Dinner on this one just to fit them all in. If we were speaking about the present, I would have to give a BIG shout out to two very different people. One would be Matthew Morrison (the teacher of the Glee class on television). The other would have to be Dean Koontz - my absolute favorite writer (of this century). When it comes to Mr. Morrison, I would like to have breakfast. I have a feeling, over coffee, I would be speaking with an extremely intelligent person. From the Broadway stage to the movies and television, his entertainment factor is well above par. But, I can see by the look in those eyes that he would be intriguing to talk to about sports, history, politics - a great many things, in fact. We would have that pot of coffee and enjoy a tango (The dance, people! To work off all the caffeine!) before we said adieu.

When it comes to lunch, I pick Koontz. Still one of the greatest moments was a letter I received from this amazing writer who let me know that a story I had written to him in a fan letter, of all things, made him laugh so hard he fell out of his chair. Can you imagine how cool it is to know that you made Dean Koontz laugh? I would love to talk about everything from dogs to Odd Thomas to the need for sarcasm and wit - which I still believe is missing in this day and age. I would love to pick his literary brain. Now THAT would be a great lunch!

And for dinner, we reach out to the past. I certainly do not wish this to come out as creepy even though I know it will. Although I would love to meet many historical figures - from Houdini to Lincoln to Jane Austen - I have to give the ‘shout-out’ here to Poe. Even now, his words have a symmetry that have yet to be copied. His stories were frightening and seductive all at the same time. I would wonder how he would feel if he was still alive knowing that The Masque of the Red Death has basically come true, when you see all the pride and prejudice (not to use a line from another writer I am in love with) that seems to be a daily occurrence on our television sets.

So from a tango (yes, the dance) with Morrison to a lunch with Koontz, I would love to end the evening with a vodka (or whatever was his poison) with Poe!  THAT would be a perfect day!

Until Next Time, Everybody,

Amy

This is part of a read along, so visit each tour stop (Click here for tour stops) for full effect:

I reach over and lift the book which Matthew’s reading off the table. “Are you serious?”

My partner shrugs. He looks down at the profound words of Mark Twain when he wrote about a time in history that’s imprinted on our brains. I turn back to the cover of my own book that Gabriel threw at me before he left. I’m supposed to read—to remember—to somehow locate the moment where I lost my faith so that I can get it back. I know he wants me to go back down and help some new fool. Or maybe I have to smite someone who needs to be stopped before they destroy the world. Who knows?

The title of my book mocks me, Gilded Wings. All our teachers up here, in Heaven, recorded every thought and every conversation we ever had. I shudder at this, scared that everything was written down for posterity. It would be nice if they’d chosen to let us keep some of our secrets. Perhaps they were generous enough to keep our private moments private; I certainly don’t want our torrid emotions kept ‘on the books’ for all eternity. And I definitely don’t want other partnerships coming up behind us to read and pass judgment on the choices we made.

  1. Hm, this definitely seems like something different than what I'm used to reading. I'm not sure the excerpt does the book justice. It sounds so mundane compared to the blurb.
