Summary
The guy she wants…

Growing up on the coast of Maine with a revolving door of foster siblings, Caitlyn Michaud spent one intense and passionate year falling in love with her foster brother, Heath. Then he left without a word. The betrayal devastated Caitlyn and made her vow to forget the compelling bad boy. But forgetting his sensual touch and their deep all-consuming friendship is easier said than done.

Isn’t the guy she needs…

Determined to move on, in college Caitlyn has risen above her small town impoverished roots and has joined a sorority, reinvented her appearance, and landed the right boyfriend. Pre-law major and frat president, Ethan, is thoughtful and always laughing, and he makes her feel happy, calm. He also gives her the social acceptance she craves.

But the perfect world she tried so hard to attain is ripped apart when Heath appears one night out of nowhere. Caitlyn remembers all the reasons why she loves him, even if they don’t make sense to anyone but her. Out of the military, Heath is as brooding and intense as ever, and he is determined not only to win her back, but to exact revenge on everyone who kept him from her…

And when one love allows her to breathe, but the other feels as essential to her life as air, how does she choose between them?
At A Glance
This is the kind of book that hit me just right but might annoy other people.

The Good
OMG, the drama, the overreactions, the bad choices. I LOVED it all! You don't get into You Make Me for an epic love story with lovable characters and a beautiful ending. You get into this book for beyond flawed characters who don't know what the hell they are doing and just go with their gut.

Caitlyn is annoying, whiny, and indecisive. But I was cool with it because her passion and fire really called to me. She was not meant for a boring, scheduled life and relationship. She was meant for chaos and crazy love. And that's what she got with Heath. I loved how their relationship was something no one else could really understand. They had a unique connection because of their past. I felt bad for Ethan though. He was a normal guy. Caitlyn may have thought she wanted normal, but in the end, Ethan was a filler until Heath showed up again.

Heath is kind of a jerk. He is impulsive and insensitive. But he loves Caitlyn with his whole heart. He had good reasons for leaving her so suddenly years ago, but now he wants her back, and he is willing to do anything to make that happen. Heath was just so...free. He is the kind of guy you know you are going to have a great time with. No dull moments. He isn't the safe choice, but he is the fun choice.

The writing was good and the story kept my attention. Finally, I can say I have read a McCarthy book!

The Bad
Spoilery:
The ending, just no. This whole book is about blurred lines, right from wrong, dramatic conflict, Caitlyn making the right decisions, and seeing if Heath is the correct choice. So everything comes to a head in the end and Caitlyn has to make the big decision. There are so many negatives she needs to consider and a lot of stuff that needs to be talked about between her and Heath. Yeah...no. No problems are addressed, no long talks to see if Caitlyn and Heath are long-term, no resolution. Just "let's get back together because I am sad without you." Yeah, that's obviously the road to a successful relationship - says me, very sarcastically. *head-desk*

The Snuggly
Honestly, I don't know if Caitlyn and Heath should be together, but who the hell cares! They produced some juicy drama and steamy sex scenes. They obviously have hot chemistry and a unique bond that no one can really understand. I like them together, they can be flawed together.

Yes, there is sex and it's pretty hot, you have been warned. :)

Final Thoughts
Again, this book will not be for everyone. The characters might not be perfect, or sometimes even tolerable, but they have this spark that makes you obsessed with their story. I recommend this book, but remember, it's very drama-filled and angsty. It worked for me.
Quotes
“Promise me if I don’t make you happy, you’ll toss me aside, no matter how much pressure I put on you. Because even though I can be selfish, all I really want is for you to be happy.”

“How could I explain that Heath was the past and Ethan was the future? That one I had chosen and one had chosen me? That Ethan represented everything I had always craved, but Heath was everything I needed?”

"Is Heath hung?"
"Aubrey!" I was caught off guard and I could actually feel myself blushing.
"What? You asked me about Jared. Though Heath just looks like he would be. He's too angry to have a small penis."

  1. After reading your review, I am going to have to add this one. I like that the characters aren't perfect, the no real decision being made kinda sounds irritating but I think I won't mind. Great review.

  2. The bad choices! Love the way you threw that in there with the things you love. Like a soap opera where everyone keeps taking wrong turns. It sounds like it's a great book, although I'm not sure I'd want to invest all that time if the ending is disappointing.

    1. Yeah, not so thrilled with the ending, but still a great book, soap opera-y and all. :)

  3. I would want to read this for the good stuff that you mentioned, sets the heroine up for a great redemption and it promises character growth. But WTF is up with the no-resolution?! That totally blows. I hope your next read is better.
