Summary
Their wishes were simple and modest. Fate had other things in store though, and she can be a real bitch sometimes.
- All he wanted was to get the job done and somehow to endure those long months playing nanny to a spoiled little rich girl. Without strangling her with his bare hands in the process. Well, it is going to be much easier said than done.
- All she wanted was to escape the past and live like any other nineteen-year-old girl. Her plan definitely didn’t include the arrogant, tattooed savage, with his awful mohawk hair and lack of social graces, whose only mission was to stick real close and mess up her life.
But, people aren't always what they seem to be, are they?

Good, but nothing special.
The Good
Even though I didn't feel like Perfect Opposite was anything special, I actually did enjoy the whole concept of Alex guarding Sasha while mobsters tried to kill her. I felt that constant underlying thread of suspense and danger. Alex was an amazing character. I loved his look and grumpy but caring personality. I would have felt honored for him to protect my body...in every way. ;)
The few action/suspense scenes in the book were pretty good. The life Sasha and Alex had to live was not so glamorous. It's rough and violent. A normal life was hard to come by. But I loved how they made do with the little world they created just the two of them.
The writing was good and the dialogue was super fun. Alex and Sasha together will make you laugh. I am interested to see what else Zoya has to offer.
The Bad
I have to be honest. I started writing this review and then got bored. My mind wondered and I started surfing the internet and watching FoodNetwork shows. Two hours later, I am finally back here. I think this is very telling. Even though I enjoyed this book, it wasn't special enough for make me really care about it. If writing a review for a book bores me, then the book kind of bores me too. Mostly, I think it was too long. It went on FOREVER! And nothing big happens, just a few quick action scenes.
As the blurb says, Sasha is a bitch! She was spoiled and rude. She started fights over every little thing and got people hurt because of her stupid actions.
The Snuggly
Sasha was not my cup of tea, but I loved the banter between her and Alex. Not the stupid fights, but the cute, silly fights were the best. So, sure, in the end, I wanted them together, after Sasha's attitude changed a little.
Guess what? No, really, guess. Okay, okay, I'll tell you. For the first time ever, in all the new adult books I have ever read, Perfect Opposite was the first to not have actual sex scenes! Yup, I know! Crazy. It felt like reading 'YA sex.' It didn't bother me, but I was surprised. Not the norm for sure. I actually reread the lead up to the sex to make sure I hadn't actually skipped the sex by accident. :D
Final Thoughts
I think many of you will love this book. It had it's fun and exciting moments. Even if I kind of focused more on the boring parts. I think new adult is losing it's novelty for me now, so I need something amazing to keep me reading. Somewhat recommended.
Quotes
“Come back home with me, Princess."
"Why?"
"I bought new glasses. And plates. There's nobody there to throw them at me.”
“Alex?”
“What now?” he nudged the door open and lifted me again.
“Do you have a girlfriend?”
“That's none of your business.”
“That means you do." I yawned, “Well I feel sorry for her. Guess I’d want to off myself if I were going steady with a guy like you…”
“Feeling is mutual. Trust me.”
“The way you behave... You have a serious problem, you know that, right?”
“How could I forget about it? It’s right under my nose and it doesn’t stop yapping.”
“You going to wear black for that funeral?” he asked, looking down at the continent-sized bruise on my arm.
“What are you talking about? Whose funeral?”
“That of your soon-to-be-deceased ex.”
“What!? Are you crazy?” I squeaked.
“Well, I suppose black isn’t your color of choice, but people will talk if you go there dressed in shocking pink, you know...”

So just a meh book for this one. I don't think I've ever read a New Adult book that wasn't also a Paranormal. Just personal preference there though. The mobster threat thrown in sounds interesting. Great review :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
ReplyDeleteI rarely see new adult in paranormal so you will have to tell me which books you are reading. I need to get me some!
DeleteI'm torn on whether to pick this one up or not. It sounds like something I'd pick up, but I've seen a few "meh" reviews.
ReplyDeleteGood review :)
Yeah, this is a toughie. I would recommend it overall.
DeleteHaha - you got bored just trying to write the review. I'm usually always like that even when I loved the book. Well, not sure this one really interests me.
ReplyDeleteI usually like writing the reviews so this was an odd experience for me.
DeleteI still haven't ever read a new adult book! At least not that I'm aware of. I have too many middle grade and YA books to read right now...I'll just stick with that.
ReplyDeleteOMG, you have to try at least one! Some are amazing.
DeleteAlex sounds great and also love the sound of the dialogue
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Did you find any interesting recipes?
ReplyDeleteAlways!!!
DeleteBahaha how you wrote this review is me with every review! I write 2 sentences, then browse Twitter and randomness for 20 minutes, then write another sentence or 2 >.< No wonder it takes 2 hours! Lol! Too bad this one wasn't better for you, but it sounds like it has some good qualities - Alex for one ;) And I love books that always keeps me intrigued form the hovering threat/suspense. Great review, Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteLOL, that sucks about the review writing though. You need to find a way to making it fun! It should be fun.
