Summary
*This is a stand-alone sequel to Fearsome. No cliffhanger!

Dylan Blackard is back in town and certain everyone knows his secrets.

Putting away his notorious reputation as the wild guy with a womanizing past, he’s now on a new path, wanting to be the good guy his brother can stop worrying over. As long as he gives up his old vices—including women—he can keep himself on the straight and narrow and finally live up to everyone’s expectations.

However, obsessing about his lack of self-control is making Dylan one humorless, cranky hermit. That all changes, though, when his brother hires a new employee, the stunning Emma Keller, who will be sharing an office with him and all of his tightly wound nerves.

Emma, a spunky young woman from New Jersey, isn’t about to feel sorry for Dylan and his situation. She is beyond distracting to him, and that is enough to turn his emotional balancing act upside down. Not only is she intelligent, and a smart aleck, she’s also very determined to pull the sexy Dylan Blackard out of his self-imposed isolation.

From the moment he meets her, he feels alive again, but Emma doesn’t come as a gift with a pretty bow; she comes with major baggage—a family embedded in its own tumultuous history.

Will Emma be the tipping point that causes Dylan to regress into his past destructive behaviors…or will he actually pursue her for keeps?

*Due to adult language and sexual content, this New Adult Contemporary Romance is intended for readers over the age of 18.
At A Glance
A good but average contemporary romance.

The Good
I haven't read the first book of the series but this is a stand alone, so I didn't feel like I missed out on anything.

Everything started out great. I liked the characters backstories. They both have had complicated and messed up lives but they are trying to move on with their lives. Emma and Dylan were pretty erratic and emotional people. Neither has had stability in their lives, especially because of their parents, and now they don't know how to have a normal relationship. But I loved how they overcame their pasts and present obstacles to find peace within each other. They had their own drama to get through too, but you could tell that no matter what, they were perfect for each other.

I really liked all the side characters. They seem like a cool bunch of friends but they also have their own issues and lives. It felt real, genuine. The writing was well done and the plot was pretty interesting with Emma's family drama. But it was the steamy romance that stood out.

The Bad
Even though I liked Emma and Dylan together, separate, they fell a little flat for me. Emma was a drama queen with a flare for overreacting. When she found out about some of Dylan's past she waaaaaay overreacted. She had him in the dog house for days for no real good reason. And Dylan was a little boring. I heard he was interesting in the first book of the series, but I didn't see much personality here, except for his 'obsession' with Emma.

I felt my interest waning a little halfway through the book. I was over some of the drama and some of the dialogue started getting corny and silly.

The Snuggly
The sex was the best part. There was so much chemistry between these two. The steam rose from the pages as these two enjoyed each other's bodies. And you know what, sometimes sex is the answer. :D And these two proved it.

Final Thoughts
This was just an average new adult contemporary romance. Nothing spectacular, but I enjoyed myself for the most part. I would like to try book #1 out. Recommend.
Quotes
“Dylan was made to love someone.”

“You can only kick ass and be tough for so long before you just want someone to bring you your slippers and a cup of hot chocolate.”

“Meds don’t make me high, so it has to be her.”

"Is it possible I am setting myself up for a future of regrets that would hurt Dylan? How much psychological melodrama can a guy like Dylan handle? Under the circumstances, I could be the worst possible woman for him."
Author Bio
S. A. Wolfe lives with her very loud, opinionated children and husband. She is a voracious reader and passionate about writing, and when those two activities don’t keep her locked away in her room, she loves roaming the streets of New York City. Sometimes she even hikes mountains, but most of the time she finds excellent ways to procrastinate.

  1. It is very difficult to change people´s opinions of us. Especially if we don´t believe it ourself.

  2. I love it when even the side characters leave an impression. I'm a big character oriented reader so a great cast really makes a book in a lot of cases. It sounds like they brought out the best in each other when they were together. I also love companion series like this where every book is a stand-alone in itself but you can still see links (often) between books - characters are mentioned etc. I have the worst memory so reading true series only works well for me if I binge read them lol. >.< Great review, Jennifer!

    1. I agree, these companion series are the best. You don't have to start from the beginning to enjoy a book.

Anyway, your page keeps on getting hijacked by some sort of ad, I have to refresh a few times to stay on your blog page and it only happens here. Not sure if this is intentional on your part but if it's not, just thought I'd let you know, give you a head's up.

    1. I have heard this from two other people. I have no idea what's going on. I am trying to fix it but without it happening to me, it's hard to find the problem. I hope you can bear with me until August, when I am moving to wordpress.

    1. Yeah, I have no idea what's going on. I don't know if I should hire someone to fix it but it seems like a waste of money when I am moving my blog soon.

  8. This sounds like an interesting book. I have the read book that comes before this one though, so I would make sure to buy this if I did win it. Interesting cover (although his back does look a bit weird and um, unnaturally pointy?) But still, sounds like a good book!
